Boxscore Breakdown #42: The return – Angels 12, Red Sox 5

PierceReflective

Garrett Richards returned to the scene of his injury, which was surely an emotional moment. He must’ve been so happy to make a clean start and get out of there unscath-

WATCH OUT!!

richards knee

Right on the bad knee, too. As Richards said after the game, “Of course.”

The other big return though was the Angels offense, which exploded for nine runs… IN ONE INNING! I know, I couldn’t believe it either. I missed the first half of the game and checked the score on my phone and was convinced I needed to find an iPhone repair shop because of what I was seeing. Whether or not the offense actually sticks around is a whole other matter.

The Angels offense explodes and he is left as the only Angel with a negative RE24 and who never reached base safely. Johnny Giavotella didn’t get a hit either, but he at least walked three times. Heck, Chris Iannetta blew up and Matt Joyce even had two hits. What gives, Krauss?

Dustin Pedroia had a pretty big day too, but considering he almost re-injured Richards, I have to say I am a little peeved at him.

He wasn’t really all that bad, but he did get shaky late into the start. His lack of whiffs speaks to just how much his stuff wasn’t quite working. Rick Porcello didn’t have anything working and got shelled by the Halos for what seems to be becoming an annual tradition.

Bullpen Battle

That really prevented this blowout from becoming an actual close game. For Boston, Matt Barnes brought the gas can to the mound with him to make things so much worse. I’m sure Clippers fans can relate.

I know that Iannetta had a big day, but Trout was just out there doing completely inhuman things.
