Boxscore Breakdown #56: Misfire – Yankees 8, Angels 2

The Bullet just misfired in about the worst way possible. After an utterly disastrous start, Garrett Richards went from “Oh, he’s just in a slump,” to “Oh no, I think he’s broken. I’m scared. It’s so cold here. And why is it so dark? Is anyone else here. I’m so alone.” The Angels have been able to ride their starting pitching during the offensive doldrums of the first two months of the season, but now the rotation is coming apart at the seams and the season might be coming apart along with it.

Cron is back for… well, I don’t know why he’s back, but he is. He made his biggest offensive contribution to the team in weeks by getting hit by a pitch. Clearly his time in the minors is paying off. David Freese had a double in the game, but his bases loaded GIDP was absolutely backbreaking. Everyone else was just kind of there. Honestly, it is hard to really blame a lineup for their level of production when the fall behind by six runs after the first inning.

Oops! Cam Bedrosian did not look great, probably just because he was getting dangerously close to actually looking like a big league reliever and he didn’t want us getting any big ideas. The Yankees bullpen was sadly uncooperative in allowing another late-inning six-run rally.
