Boxscore Breakdown #66: LOBsterFest – Diamondbacks 3, Angels 2

Good news! The Angels had a lot of hits. 11 hits is a lot of hits for the Angels in a game. Bad news, none of those hits came with runners in scoring position. The Halos scored just two runs in this game, one on a standard fielder’s choice the other on a double play. Overall, the Halos left a whopping eight men on base and a facepalm-worthy 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The 2015 Angels, even when they hit, they can’t score.

RE24 leaders were a pinch-hitting Efren Navarro and embattled Matt Joyce. Joyce did have a nice game which we are supposed to believe means he’s fixed, but you’ll have to excuse me if I wait for a little more evidence. What I don’t need more evidence of is that Erick Aybar batting leadoff is a bad idea.

Yasmany Tomas did the most damage though and seems to finally be breaking out on the season thanks to this series. You’re welcome, Arizona.

The nine strikeouts were impressive, but the longball has really been a problem for him of late. Chase Anderson didn’t miss many bats, but he got those timely GIDPs.

Bullpen Battle

The Angels bullpen wasn’t much better, but they also emerged unscathed.

Aybar had the worst RE24, but Johnny Giavotella made the final out of an inning with the tying run on third twice. Ouch.
