Taylor Featherston and Johnny Giavotella both going yard in the same inning, just like the Angels drew it up. As the Angels continue their search for more offensive production, it was their littlest hitters that provided the most punch (OK, at 6’1″, Featherston isn’t that small, but his production coming to this game was microscopic). Maybe they are just stepping up their games or maybe they are inspired that Ant-Man is opening later this summer. Either way, the Halos have to be happy to get that kind of unexpected production as there hasn’t been a whole lot of that coming their way this year.

This ended up being a big day for a lot of folks, almost all of it coming in the five-run sixth inning. Despite all the runs, Trout and Johnny Giavotella were the only Angels with multiple hits, though Kole Calhoun, Albert Pujols and David Freese each drew two walks while going hitless.

C.J. Wilson was terrific, despite his best efforts to dislocate his shoulder while sliding into second base. He probably got a little lucky to only allow one run, but with nine whiffs and no walks, you could argue that he made his own luck. It started out looking like Allen Webster was going to be the next D’Backs pitcher to be made to look good by the Halos, but he fell apart so quickly in the sixth that his line was totally ruined.
Bullpen Battle

Jose Alvarez had an impressive inning whilst protecting a cushy lead. That cushy lead was largely thanks to Josh Collmenter (Arizona’s Opening Day starter!) becoming a gas can in human form.

The tiniest sluggers got the Angels into a good position early, but once that big inning exploded all over Collmenter, the game was over.

New rule: feet first slides only. Or maybe just no more hitting and running at all. Yeah, that seems safer.
