Boxscore Breakdown #79: Same old, same old – Yankees 3, Angels 1

In the first game of the post-Dipoto era, the Angels turned out to have the exact same problems they had before he left. The lineup continued to undersupport the pitching staff by being comically inept with runner in scoring position. It is almost like it is a coaching problem or something. Hmm, weird.

Cron striking out after the odd choice to bring him in as a pinch-hitter against Dellin Betances. Aside from the Mike Trout solo shot, this was an exceptionally awful game for the hitters.

Didi Gregorius was somehow a problem for the Halos again, but at least they held Brett Gardner in check this time around.

Nate Eovaldi really looked like he had the Angels’ number again, only to fall apart in the sixth and get the hook. His stat line remained unscathed though thanks to the Angels’ lack of situation hitting.

Bullpen Battle

Jose Alvarez took a tumble for the Angels and might have put his hold on his roster spot in jeopardy in so doing.

So many choices, but Navarro gets the nod here because he was a repeat offender for the crime of unclutch hitting.
