The Angels played two games. They won two games. I am now recapping the second of those two games. I don’t feel particularly into it, so this is the best I can do for a whimsical intro. Sorry.
Run Expectancy Rundown
Two GIDPs? Seriously, Albert Pujols. I’m trying to defend you, but that isn’t going to help. Erick Aybar did it too, but he doesn’t have the same sordid history. Kole Calhoun and Howie Kendrick did a the heavy lifting, but Josh Hamilton deserves some special love for getting intentionally walked twice and being plunked. Not the way I like to get my offense, but it will work.
Just when you thought Jered Weaver‘s homer problems were behind him, he gets taken deep by noted sluggers Conor Gillaspie and Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez had a productive day, but no RBI, which is fun.
Starting Pitcher Scores
Let’s be honest, both starting pitchers were just terrible. I’m just going to assume they were both distraught over the World Cup results.
Bullpen Battle
The Angels bullpen was lights out, but it did feature another cameo by new Angels Rich Hill, who seems to be hellbent on quickly making himself former Angel Rich Hill. Joe Smith managed to get his second save of the day and Jason Grilli didn’t suck, which is nice.
Game Flow
This game was just all over the place. It was one of those contests where for the first six innings it seemed like neither team actually wanted to win.
Halo Hero
Nobody stood out here and I’m tired of writing two of these recaps in one day, so I’ll just give it to Howie since he had the highest WPA.
