Boxscore Breakdown #86: Two for the price of one – Angels 7, Mariners 3

Consol Energy Center

Apparently it was two for the price of one night at Safeco Field as the two different Angels smacked two different homers each. The Angels also more than doubled up the Mariners on the scoreboard. Alas, it still only counts as one win, but the Halos are now just a half game back of the Astros and actually have one fewer loss than Houston.

Cron were the two with the double up dingers while Johnny Giavotella doubled up on doubles. Albert Pujols ruined his number with a GIDP and Chris Iannetta ruined the fun by being the only Angel to not collect a base hit.

The Mariners still stink, but at least they can salvage some pride by not having the Trumbo trade seem like a complete waste. Franklin Gutierrez had a solid night, which is something no one has said aloud since 2009.

Mike Montgomery wasn’t the fully Monty, or even the half Monty.

Fortunately, Danny Farquhar was just as bad for Seattle, giving the Angels the breathing space they needed to survive Pestano’s misadventure.

Two homers at Safeco? This guy should be in the Home Run Derby or something.
