After two days of dramatic come-from-behind wins, the Halos finally decided to take it easy on us and won this game relatively handy. It wasn’t a cakewalk or anything, but the outcome seemed pretty well secure early in the game and required no special offensive explosions. It may not have been as fun, but fun is overrated.
Run Expectancy Rundown
Kole Calhoun had the big game, but the real news is that Albert Pujols actually got a base hit with the bases loaded. The offensive output could’ve been so much more had the Halos not grounded into two doubleplays and been thrown out stealing twice.
Carlos Corporan was the only Astro to produce a positive RE24. George Springer took the golden sombrero and Jonathan Singleton very nearly joined him.
Starting Pitcher Scores
Garrett Richards looked great again. One could even say he looked like an All-Star… unless the “one” person saying it was an All-Star voter because Richards didn’t make the All-Star team. On the other side, the Angels finally seemed to solve Collin McHugh.
Bullpen Battle
Joe Thatcher made his Angels debut but allowed a hit to the one batter he faced. Mike Morin was solid, but really the highlight of the day was his sprawling catch on a pop-up that the Angels very nearly Astro’d. Oh, and Fernando Salas is back from the DL which… good? Good, right? As per usual, the Houston bullpen allowed a bunch of runs.
Game Flow
It wasn’t quite the comeback that the Halos had mounted in the last two games, but technically, this was another come-from-behind win for the Halos.
