You shouldn’t snub Garrett Richards from the All-Star Game. You wouldn’t like him when he’s snubbed. The Rangers certainly didn’t.
Run Expectancy Rundown
Daivd Freese had the highest RE24 on the day, but it was Albert Pujols posting another multi-hit game, his third in a row and seventh in the last eight games. C.J. Cron continues his little mini-slump and Hank Conger continues his not-so-mini-slump. He should count himself lucky that his throwing errors don’t count in the RE24.
You know you had a bad day offensively when the RE24 leader on your team was the guy whose only contribution was taking a 97 MPH fastball off his elbow. Meanwhile, Carlos Pena continued to justify the Angels’ decision to release him before the season. His Halo-killing days appear to be over (apologies in advance if that proves to be a jinx).
Starting Pitcher Scores
Garrett Richards admitted he was pitching with a “chip on his shoulder” after his All-Star snub. It showed in the results. In fact, let’s all hope he isn’t named to replace David Price because this “chip on the shoulder” thing works pretty well. Nick Tepesch was cruising along pretty well himself until he tried to roll the order over for the third time.
Bullpen Battle
The shockingly dynamic duo of Kevin Jepsen and Joe smith nailed down the victory for the Angels. Also, it turns out that Neftali Feliz is still alive. You learn something new everyday.
Game Flow
It was a fairly steady climb to victory for the Angels as the Rangers never really even threatened to score. The Halos’ win expectancy never got lower than 41%.
Halo Hero
And it turns out that Richards got snubbed again with Fraudney getting to replace David Price instead of Garrett! I think that means he might threw a uber-perfect game in his first start after the break.
