I’m writing this whilst doubled over as I am still feeling the after-effects of that gut punch loss courtesy of John Jaso.
Run Expectancy Rundown
Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun were the only two Angels that could solve the riddle that was Jesse Chavez. David Freese and Howie Kendrick did their usual no-show act while Mike Trout was very un-Trout-like.
Jaso. It always has to be Jaso, doesn’t it? It was one thing to see Alberto Callaspo dropping bloop singles all over the place as if he were mocking the Angels’ current third base situation, but Jaso constantly taking down the Angels with one swing of the bat is too much to take and entirely too predictable.
Starting Pitcher Scores
A very solid pitching duel. Chavez outpitched Hector Santiago, but that is fine by me since it meant Santiago finally pitched well for the Angels. He didn’t have the strikeouts this time around, but he also only walked one batter and threw a lot of strikes. That’s a trade-off he should look to take more often.
Bullpen Battle
A straight up meltdown for Ernesto Frieri is all you need to know about this bullpen battle. On the much less important side, Jose Alvarez looked decent in his debut.
Game Flow
It was a nice steady upwards climb for the Halos. They were doing so well and then- BAM! Jaso’d.
Halo A-Hole
Once it became clear he couldn’t throw his offspeed pitches over the plate, it was pretty obvious that he was going to be in trouble.
