The Colts have added punter Jeremy Kapinos and safety Chip Vaughn to their active roster.
Kapinos will handle the punting chores against Houston while Pat McAfee serves his team-imposed one-game suspension. Vaughn provides depth at his position. The only healthy safeties are starters Antoine Bethea and Aaron Francisco and rookie backup Mike Newton.
Kapinos, 26, is entering his fourth season in the NFL. He spent the past two seasons with Green Bay, and was the Packers’ full-time punter in 2009. Kapinos averaged 43.8 yards on 66 punts last season. The Colts did not announce either roster move but Kapinos’ agent, Rob Roche, confirmed the signing.
Vaughn, 24, was a 2009 fourth-round draft pick of New Orleans. The 6-2, 221-pounder recently was waived from Philadelphia’s practice squad.
