Jim Leyland wasn't kidding about it being time for some young blood. The Tigers are reportedly going to hire 44-year-old Brad Ausmus, a one-time Tigers All-Star catcher who went on to win three Gold Gloves with the Astros.
Ausmus has absolutely zero managerial experience, but a cardboard cutout of himself has some acting experience…
… and he has also been featured shirtless on the cover of a magazine before. But he has never penciled a big league or minor league lineup.
Ausmus is widely considered a smart guy — he went to Dartmouth — and he's supposedly good at communicating. He'll be inheriting a team full of stars and different backgrounds, so it'll be imperative that he gets the team's respect right away. What is unknown at this time is how he will use Don Kelly. That could play a big role in everything.
