After a wild weekend in which the Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly let Jeremy Maclin walk, Eagles nation has walked on eggshells. Well depending on who you ask, the team did bring back a bright spot from the defense last year as they have re-signed six-year pro and former first round pick Brandon Graham to a four-year deal that will pay him $6.5 million per year with $14 million guaranteed.
Graham had a career high 5.5 sacks last season and really stepped up to the plate as fans and coaches finally started to respect his play on the field. Early on in the offseason, there was great amount of speculation as to if Graham would be back in midnight green. After all, Chip Kelly has not really exemplified loyalty during the offseason.
LeSean McCoy was traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso. Trent Cole was released after not being able to agree to terms on a new deal. Ten-year veteran Todd Herremans was released in which quietly left the Eagles fanbase a little clueless. A ton of cap space and a greater amount of question marks still recycle on social media and in the minds of the fans. Graham will have plenty of opportunities to make the most of his payday as he will most likely take over the pass rushing threat of Cole.
Graham is one of the few that have been offered a new opportunity under Chip Kelly and with him having full control of personnel it would be in Graham’s best interest to produce at a high level.
