With the biggest fight to ever hit North Texas little over a week and a half away you can almost feel the electricity in the air. The fight card, headlined by the super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito took a bit of a hit this week when it was announced that former middleweight champion of the world Kelly Pavlik had withdrawn from his fight with Brian Vera due to a rib injury. However, Top Rank moved swiftly in replacing Pavlik’s fight with another fighter with a similar offensive arsenal in Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (28-0-1, 18 KOs) who will face Omri Lawther (14-2, 10 KOs) in a junior welterweight bout.
The undefeated Rios is coming of a DQ win over highly touted contender Anthony Peterson and has quickly established himself as a fan favorite fighter for his all action attack. They don’t call him “Bam Bam” for nothing, after all.
The Rios-Lawther fight will fill out the four bout televised PPV card and while it lacks the star power of a Pavlik-Vera bout, it none the less guarantees a slugfest.
