The Celtics just shocked everyone with this statement:
The Boston Celtics announced today that Jared Sullinger’s metatarsal stress fracture has healed completely and that he will be available for this evening’s game at TD Garden against the Milwaukee Bucks.
“We are excited that Jared’s recovery progressed quicker than initially expected,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “Jared was extremely diligent in his rehab, repeatedly expressing his eagerness to help our team reach the postseason. He will be available in a limited role this weekend as he works his way back to 100 percent game shape.”
Say what?
Sullinger was supposed to be done for the season after a stress fracture was discovered in his right foot. We just took that as gospel and moved on.
However, bones do have a tendency to heal in 6 to 8 weeks. His last game was on February 11th. It’s now nearly two months later, so it’s not entirely shocking that he’s been cleared to return. I’ve even started to hear the question of Sullinger’s return asked should they make the playoffs.
I guess that doesn’t matter now. The Celtics will figure out a way to work Sully back into things. We’ll see how the two months have treated him and his conditioning.
Now let’s see how this affects the chase for 8th (or 7th, or 6th).
