Brady Clark and cash sent to Dodgers for RP Elmer Dessens
My take: Melvin’s back was up against the wall, having 6 OF’s on the roster (with 4 of them making over $3.4 million or more in ’07)…getting an average 36 year-old righty middle reliever not only gets rid of an extra outfielder, but provides a little bit more depth in the bullpen. The move, however, makes it less likely that Chris Spurling or even Jose Capellan will be around at the start of the season…my guess is that Melvin is now trying to trade a reliever for a prospect.
