According to Mac Cerullo of The Daily Campus, UConn’s student newspaper, UConn Huskies injured defensive end Marcus Campbell has been arrested and charged with fifth degree larceny.
Cerullo states that Campbell allegedly stole a backpack that contained a laptop and other items. The total value of what Campbell allegedly stole was $825. Cerullo also says that it’s unclear whether Campbell’s suspension from the team last week and this incident are related. But from everything we’ve heard, Campbell’s suspension was due to academic issues.
Campbell tore his ACL during the preseason and is out for the season.
If his suspension and latest alleged transgression aren’t related, it could spell the end of Campbell’s tenure as a member of the UConn football team.
Update: According to Desmond Conner of the Hartford Courant, Campbell’s suspension last week from the team was in fact due to this incident.
