BREAKING: #tblightning RW Ryan Callahan out indefinitely after undergoing emergency appendectomy surgery Monday night, more details to come
— Lightning Insider (@Erik_Erlendsson) May 12, 2015
Ryan Callahan experienced abdominal pain earlier today and was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent surgery at 9:00 p.m. at Tampa General Hospital to remove his appendix. The surgery took an hour and Callahan is stable. Other players have had the same surgery and were out for three to five games, but right now Callahan is out indefinitely.
Full recovery usually takes 4-6 weeks.
Jonathan Drouin would be the leading candidate to draw in for Callahan. Forwards Mike Angelidis and Jonathan Marchessault, two of the team’s Black Aces, also practiced with Tampa Bay Monday.
Callahan has three assists in 12 postseason games this year. He had 24 goals and 30 assists in 77 regular-season games.
