Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos limped off the ice and went straight to the dressing room during Tuesday nights game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Stamkos stayed in Detroit for an MRI and later returned to Tampa for “further evaluation.”
All Lightning fans feared the worst and those fears were correct as the Lightning captain has been diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and the “out indefinitely” prognosis.
GM Steve Yzerman said they’re in the process of evaluating potential rehab and repair. options and that, “Our understanding is that this issue can be repaired and he can get back to full speed. It just takes some time. Obviously he’s disappointed. He’s going to work his rear end off and he’ll be back as good as ever.”
“Out indefinetly”, “rehab”, “repair”? UGH!

He broke his right tibia after crashing into the goal post during a game at Boston on Nov. 11, 2013. He missed 45 games. He also missed all but one game of the 2016 Eastern Conference playoffs while recovering from a rare blood clot near his collarbone.
The two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner scored his ninth goal of the season earlier in the game. The six-time All-Star has 20 points in 17 games.
Look for a call-up from Syracuse soon, as the Bolts continue their road trip tomorrow night in Buffalo vs. the Sabres. Jonathan Drouin looks to be close to returning.
