Breaking Vegas With Garrett Thornton – Week Fourteen

HALF A POINT! Half-a-dang-point!

I was half a point from being 5-0 in Week Thirteen. The New York Football (Not-so) Giants blew it for me. I took them as an underdog. They led for the majority of the game. Then Brandon Marshall happened. The game went to overtime and the Jets won by a field goal. So close, but no cigar.

But the good news is that I am back to 50% with 4 weeks to go! Killing it!

Washington Redskins @ Chicago Bears -3.5

This Bears team is not terrible. I realize that is not necisarilly a ringing endorsement but it is saying something. They are getting healthy, have Matt Forte and Jeremy Langford in the backfield, Alshon Jeffrey is starting to get things rolling, and Jay Cutler has been pretty good in Chicago. With all that said, the Redskins are a bad football team. They blew it on Monday night football against the Cowboys, another not very good football team. I have a feeling this one won’t be close. Bears 35 – Redskins 17

New York Giants -1 @ Miami Dolphins

Monday night, the Giants’ season may be on the line. Last week the blew it against the cross-town rival Jets. Not only did it hurt their win-loss record, it killed my Breaking Vegas week. If they would have won in regulation or overtime I would have ended the week 5-0 for the first time this season. Didn’t happen. They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. Call me insane but I think that the Giants take care of business on Monday Night Football. The Dolphins have shown flashes but just haven’t been consistent enough. The Giants need this win to strengthen their chances of winning the dreadful NFC East. Giants 24 – Dolphins 21

New England Patriots -3.5 @ Houston Texans

Here you find a case where the public perception is driving this line down. The Patriots have lost the last two games. The public is worried about this injury plagued Patriots team. Do not forget that just two weeks ago we were talking about this Patriot team as if they were the best team to ever play football. This is a very good football team, led by the smartest coach/quarterback combination in the past decade. They will find a way to pull out of this slump and absolutely obliterate the Texans. Patriots 42 – Texans 7

Seattle Seahawks -7.5 @ Baltimore Ravens

Don’t look now but the past two weeks the Seahawks have looked like the team that has been to consecutive Super Bowls. The offense is clicking which has led to them being able to take more chances on the defensive side of the ball and that has paid off. The Seahawks are going to miss Jimmy Graham, that is not up for discussion, but the past two weeks they have found ways to score without him and Marshawn Lynch. That is very impressive. On the other side of the ball, the Ravens are without their starting quarterback, running back, and best receiver. Not a good way to go against one of the best defenses in the league. Seahawks 28 – Ravens 10

Upset Special of the Week:

Buffalo Bills @ Philadelphia Eagles +1

Honestly no idea why the Eagles are getting a point here. They are at home, against an underwhelming opponent. Philadelphia has been a hot mess a lot of the year, there is no doubt about that. But that NFC East is so winnable. The Eagles have got to smell blood in the water and chomping at the bit to attack. This may be an ugly game but the Bills won’t have enough to beat the Eagles in Philly. Eagles 31 – Bills 24
