Mike Lamb was put on waivers by the Brewers on Tuesday, apparently securing a roster spot for Casey McGehee.
The move signals that Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin and new skipper Ken Macha are willing to take a chance on unproven youngsters over more experienced talent if they show signs of promise. The move is practical as well, as McGehee’s usual position, third base, is going to be occupied by Mat Gamel at AAA Nashville this year, so McGehee would have to move to second base or the outfield full time if demoted.
I’m glad Melvin and Macha made this move.
