Bret Saberhagen may not have pitched on Opening Day for nearly 25 years, but on Monday…he was a winner.
The former pitcher played 16 years in the Majors and for a stretch was as good a pitcher as anyone out there, winning two Cy Young Awards (1985 and 1989), a World Series and throwing a no-hitter while with the Kansas City Royals.

As you might have suspected, Saberhagen’s old teams (Kansas City, New York, Colorado and Boston) fared much better than the Royals did in the Opening Days he found himself on the mound as a starter. In his three starts, they only won once.
