A recent interview with retired Vikings retired Vikings unsure QB Brett Favre illustrates the other side to the drawn out saga that was Favre vs. the Green Bay Packers front office prior to the 2008 season. According to Favre, he was willing to play for the Lions that year to get back at the Packers.
“They made it pretty clear I wasn’t going to play there, and I said, ‘How about the Vikings or even the Lions?’ I wanted to stay in the same division. They said that wasn’t going to happen, but maybe Tampa. I said, ‘Fine, trade me to Tampa. I’ll whip your asses in week four.'”
As you’re well aware, Favre was instead traded to the New York Jets and the Lions went 0-16. However, it looks like things turned out for the best. GM Matt Millen was fired (not a guarantee if he’s able to trade for Favre) and now the Lions have their QB of the future in Matthew Stafford.
Still, this could have happened.
