Friday night’s game between the Florida Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers was your classic pitchers’ duel. Scott Olsen went for the Fish and the Brewers countered with Yovani Gallardo. Olsen gave the Brewers plenty of chances to score, but the Brewers didn’t feel like taking advantage of any of those chances. The Marlins bullpen pitched stronger and the Fish held on for a 3-0 win in 10 innings.
Olsen pitched 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He gave up only four hits but walked five batters. Gallardo went 7 innings and struck out five while only giving up six hits.
Jason Kendall had two hits on the night, while the rest of the offense only managed four hits. The stagnant offense needs a shake up. I know Mike Cameron coming back will help, but it seems like more is needed. The five walks by the team is a good sign, but overall this team is too talented to be struggling so much.
Friday’s loss can be put on Guillermo Mota’s shoulders. Brian Shouse and Eric Gagne each pitched a clean inning to get the game to the tenth. Mota gave up three runs in the tenth on only two hits. The three walks he had turned out to be is undoing.
Carlos Villanueva will take the mound Saturday night as the Brewers look to rebound from a pitiful Friday night performance.
