Brewers Overcome Best Efforts of Former Teammates in 9-4 Win Over Dodgers

Edwin
It looked bleak early on for Milwaukee but the Dodgers bullpen couldn’t hold the Brewers bats down late in a 9-4 Spring Training win at Camelback Ranch this afternoon.  Chris Capuano and Jerry Hairston, Jr. – two names Brewers fans should be familiar with combined to stop any chance of a Brewers offensive outburst early on, but their efforts were for naught.

With the Brewers down 4-1 entering the top of the 7th it seemed as if the writing was on the wall for the Brew Crew as they couldn’t get anything going offensively.  A lead off home run by Brooks Conrad apparently woke up the Brewers bats as he was joined in the Home Run parade in the 8th by Carlos Gomez who hit a three run homer of his own and put the Brewers on top 5-4, a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

That’s because the young guns went completely off in the 9th inning.  Edwin Maysonet scored first and then with the bases loaded little known Shea Vucinich hit a bases clearing double that scored all three batters as the Brewers went up 9-4 to put the game out of reach.

Interestingly the game started with a completely different script being written as Chris Capuano was on from the mound.  He went 6 innings and gave up just one run on two hits.  One of those two hits was an absolute bomb of a home run by Ryan Braun.

The rest of Braun’s day wasn’t so much fun as former teammate Jerry Hairston, Jr. robbed him of two more hits with diving catches to his left and right as Braun went just 1-for-3 on the day.

Milwaukee went with an interesting pitching gameplan as they didn’t want to eat up a starter so they went the entire game with their bullpen, starting with Francisco Rodriguez.  Overall Brewers pitchers gave up just 6 hits that led to 4 runs, all earned.

Because of the strange nature of this game I just gave you all the highlights really, so up tomorrow is another game on FSN for the Brew Crew as they take on the San Diego Padres at 2:05pm CT.  The Padres will be playing a Split Squad game that day.
