Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is having, arguably, his best season as a big leaguer and after one errant pitch…it’s likely done.
Down 4-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers, the 24-year-old MVP candidate took an 88 mile per hour Mike Fiers fastball to the face and, according to the Miami Herald, suffered “multiple facial fractures”, “dental damage” and a “facial laceration requiring stitches”.
“It’s devastating for us,” said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. “For his season to end like that, that’s not good. We just lost the MVP.”
Suffice it to say, Stanton’s teammates were visibly shaken and angry after seeing their star bloodied and down for the count for so long and, ultimately, carried off the field on a stretcher.
Also distraught…Fiers. Following the game, the Brewers righty hit social media to reach out to Stanton and let him know how he was feeling.
@Giancarlo818 I am deeply sorry about what happened tonight. I can’t imagine what you and your family are going through. (Continue)…
