Dave Bush pitched his second consecutive gem at Miller Park on Saturday night in a 2-1 Brewers win. Bush went eight innings giving up only one run on four hits while striking out seven. He took a no-decision but he has now made back-to-back starts at Miller Park going eight innings and giving up only a single run.
Mike Cameron got the Brewers on the board in the second when he hit his 14th home run of the season. The Pirates tied the game in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Adam LaRoche and Jose Bautista.
The game stayed tied at one going into the ninth inning. Eric Gagne came on and pitched an inning and held the Pirates scoreless to get the game to the Brewers’ bats. Rickie Weeks led off the ninth with a walk. JJ Hardy laid down a sac bunt to get Rickie to second and in scoring position. The Pirates intentionally walked Ryan Braun to bring up Prince Fielder with two on and one out. Prince worked a great at bat and drove the ball into left-center to score Weeks and give the Brewers another win.
The Brewers improved to 48-39 on the season and now sit 3.5 games back of division-leading Chicago and only a game back on the Cardinals for the Wild Card race. The Brewers go for the sweep tomorrow against the Pirates and will send Jeff Suppan to the mound.
