Once again faced with elimination, the Brewers pull out a 4-2…er, 4-1 win Saturday night against the Phillies, now trailing in the NLDS by two games to one.
For once, Milwaukee’s hitters showed some patience…and it paid off. Both Mike Cameron and Bill Hall drew walks to start off the bottom of the first, with both eventually scoring–Cameron on a Prince Fielder sac fly, followed by Hall on a J.J. Hardy single. Cameron would score again in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Ryan Braun sac fly.
The Phillies scored their lone run in the top of the sixth after Jayson Werth “tripled” to right–Corey Hart caught Werth’s hit, but wound up dropping it as he hit the ground–scoring on a Ryan Howard ground out.
In the seventh, catcher Jason Kendall singled in Hardy; the Phillies mounted a comeback and even momentarily had scored a 2nd run, until skipper Dale Sveum pointed out to the umpiring crew that Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino interfered with the play–the umpires agreed and sent Howard back to third base.
Dave Bush lasted 5 1/3rd innings, allowed just 5 hits and the one earned run, while walking none. Jeff Suppan is slated to go tomorrow, but look for Yovani Gallardo to get a call out of the pen should Suppan stumble out of the gate.
