The Milwaukee Brewers drafted three college players Tuesday night to start off the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft:
#26 Eric Arnett, RHP, Jr., Indiana U.
#39 Kentrail Davis, Jr., U. of Tennessee
#47 Kyle Heckathorn, Jr., Kennesaw State
Arnett went 12-1, 2.58 for the Hoosiers earlier this year, fanning 103 in 101 IP; Arnett was described as a “Josh Johnson” type pitcher, primarily due to his 6’5″ frame; Heckathorn is an inch taller at 6’6″ and indicates that the new Brewers’ draft team not only prefers college pitchers, but taller ones.
Also clear is the hope that both are a bit further along in their development than high school pitchers and can make the parent club in 2-4 years. Here’s hoping that all three sign right away and can begin their progression in Helena…or even Appleton later this year.
