Brian Elliott’s outstanding 28-save shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers not only gave the Blues two critical points, but it also moved Elliott into a tie for the franchise shutout record. Elliott’s shutout gives him 20 since joining the Blues, matching Jaroslav Halak’s 20 shutouts at the top of the league leaders in St. Louis Blues history.
Like Halak, Elliott’s shutout total may catch some by surprise. When you look at all of the great goaltenders the Blues have had on the roster, it’s kind of remarkable that the team’s current goaltender and former top goaltender are at the top of the shutout list.
Elliott’s first year with the Blues back in 2011-12 featured a total of nine shutouts in 38 games. He then rattled off another seven shutouts over the next couple of seasons and his effort over the Flyers was his fourth of the year.
Considering Halak’s tenure ended on a rather sour note, it’d be great to see Elliott pick up one more shutout to claim the record before this season comes to a close.
