You don’t want to guarantee victory, because that’s too cocky and it backfires more than not. You don’t want to talk smack about one of the opponent’s players because then they’ll be gunning for you all game, not to mention the fans will boo you incessantly everytime you touch the puck. So how does one distract the opposition without going too overboard? Bash their state’s tax system!
And that’s exactly what Brian Rafalski did on Friday night before tonight’s match up between the Red Wings and Preds:
The Canadian Press (via The Hockey News) is reporting this evening that Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski is complaining about Tennessee’s new “privilege tax” which hits professional hockey and basketball players for $2,500 per game (with an annual limit of $7,500).
“My complaint with it is … 17 teammates will be paying money out of their own pocket to play in Tennessee,” Rafalski said on Friday.
I like this strategy, let’s see how it plays out, Cotton. If the Wings win, Rafalski will be responsible for bashing every state’s attempt to steal an extra penny from the working man, right? No? OK, carry on. puck drops in 10.
