It’s been nearly a year since Jared Remy, son of Boston Red Sox All-Star-turned-broadcaster Jerry Remy, stabbed his girlfriend to death outside their surburban Boston home.
Tuesday, the 35-year-old appeared before a Middlesex County judge and pleaded guilty to the crime and, subsequently, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, the younger Remy was arrested back in August and charged with murdering his girlfriend. To no one’s surprise, this was just the latest in a long list of crimes Jared had committed. For close to half his life, the son of the popular TV personality has been in and out of the courtroom.
According to a Boston Globe story, the guy has been arrested dozens of times and walked out with a n incredible success rate.
The reason?
A lot of people suggest that it’s because Jared received “special treatment” given the high-priced lawyers provided by his father. But not any more.
“I would like to say, ‘blame me for this, not my family,’ ” Remy said, addressing the judge. “My family did everything they could to help Jen (Martel)…if you ask my family they’d rather have me dead than her.”
Much like last summer when the crimes first hit the police blotter, Jerry will be taking time off from the Boston broadcast booth. He is expected to return Friday.
