The St. Louis Blues have allowed Martin Brodeur to take a one-week leave of absence. During his time away from the club, Brodeur would decide on what he wants to do next in his career and whether or not that means staying with the Blues. Upon his return from his week off, Brodeur will announce what he wants to do moving forward.

This may be the end of Brodeur’s time in St. Louis. The Blues have made it clear that Brian Elliott is the team’s top netminder – a position Elliott deserves – and Jake Allen is the secondary option as he needs more time to grow into the NHL netminder the Blues believe he can be. That leaves the 42-year-old Brodeur as the third option who has been spending more time in the press box than down on the bench.

Brodeur last played back on January 2nd. Through seven games with the Blues, Brodeur has a 3-3-1 record with a rather pedestrian 2.87 GAA and .899 save percentage. He was a temporary solution which has since resolved itself and now the veteran is contemplating his future.

At this stage, it’s difficult to imagine Brodeur sticking around as the team’s third fiddle.
