The Denver Broncos on offense are heading into the 2015 season with a lot question marks starting with quarterback Peyton Manning, if he will return, or will they re-sign either wide receiver Demaryius Thomas or tight end Julius Thomas and then you have wide receiver Wes Welker. Welker is in a precarious situation as he will be a free agent next month who has had multiple head injuries. With those multiple injuries, Welker’s playing days are uncertain.
According to Mike Garafolo of FOXSports.com, Welker is considering retirement and according to one of the sources, he has already told family, friends, and associates about the thought of it. Welker, the 33-year-old from Texas Tech has seen his production decline in Denver due to the numerous head injuries that he has suffered.
In two seasons with the Broncos, he has only started in 21 out of 27 games, caught 122 passes for 1,242 yards and only had six touchdowns. This past season with Denver, Welker only had 49 catches for 464 yards and two touchdowns. This was his lowest total production since the 2005 season with the Miami Dolphins.
If Welker decides to call it a quits, he has had one hell of a career for an undrafted free agent. Thus far in his career, Welker has 890 receptions for 9,822 and 50 touchdowns. He became Tom Brady’s ultimate weapon in the receiving game for six seasons and now has opened the lanes for two other receivers there in Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, both who play just as tough as him.
