The Cleveland Browns have traded running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts, first reported by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

This was a shocking move. In return for Richardson, the Browns received a first round pick in next year’s draft. The Browns are obviously rebuilding, so why would they trade Trent Richardson? Apparently, Richardson “didn’t fit into the plans of Cleveland’s front office or new coach Rob Chudzinski’s offensive system”. This trade really helps the Colts, because their running back Vick Ballard is out for the season. The Colts are really a dangerous team, with Andrew Luck, Reggie Wayne and now Trent Richardson.
Andrew Luck was drafted first overall draft pick in the 2012 NFL draft, and Trent Richardson was drafted third overall in the same draft. The Colts now have the first, and the third overall picks from the 2012 draft.
This seems to be a very lopsided trade, but a first round pick in next year’s draft could end up being something special. This is a hard trade to judge right now, but it certainly seems like the Colts won this deal.
