Earlier today the Badgers basketball program announced that senior forward Mike Bruesewitz sustained a laceration to his right leg during practice on Tuesday and underwent surgery to repair the damage. As a result he will miss the next 4-6 weeks of action and that puts him in jeopardy of missing the beginning weeks of the season.
According to the report Bruesewitz hit one of the standards behind the backboard awkwardly and that caused the laceration and need for surgery. He's been released from the hospital already and has begun rehab following the surgery.
Bruesewitz was and is expected to be a starter in 2012 after averaging 5.6 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game as the Badgers defensive presence in the front court.
Replacing him in the starting lineup will be interesting should he miss closer the 6 week projection and you'd have to think freshman Sam Dekker could be in line to replace him. Other options include Zach Bohannon and possibly making a taller lineup with Evan Anderson sliding to the 5 role and Jared Berggren taking over for Bruesewitz's role, but we'll keep an eye on how that plays out going forward in practice.
