CBS Sports, Dane Brugler has released his first 2-round mock draft, and he gives the Cowboys two intriguing prospects.
At #27: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
Brandon Carr has disappointed and Morris Claiborne has been the one blemish on an otherwise flawless first-round résumé for the Cowboys the past five years, making cornerback a need in this year’s draft. Peters has his baggage, but the reward outweighs the risk at this point.
At #60: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
With the Cowboys’ targets at defensive end (Hunter, Harold, etc.) off the board, Dallas pulls the trigger on the top running back on their board.
What I like about Brugler’s 2-round mock is where he has the running backs going. In particular,
#36: Jay Ajayi, Jaguars
#42: Tevin Coleman, Falcons
#55: Amir Abdullah
This illustrates the potential “run” on running backs, and with the Cowboys needing a running back, Yeldon was the pick. I agree with the pick here. What I do wonder is if the Cowboys trade down in the 1st round and take a running back like Ajayi or trade up in the 2nd to get a running back they covet more. I could see a scenario where the Cowboys take a RB in the 1st and CB in the 2nd or vice versa.
Yeldon fits into that primary back size and athleticism, the Cowboys prefer in the backs. I wrote about running backs the Cowboys would target in the draft, read here, and Yeldon fits into my top 7 backs.
Be sure to grab a copy of Brugler’s draft guide here. Best one I’ve read. Great buy.
