With 10 minutes left in the trade deadline Peter Chiarelli pulls the trigger making some depth deals.
The Boston Bruins get old friend Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau for Marc Cantin and Yanick Riendeau.
SportsNet had Rolston on the phone before he even was told he got traded. Unreal speed by SN.
Bust out those Rolston Poohbear jerseys.
Rolston just cleared waivers, too. Why didn’t Chia claim him then? Probably ’cause Rolston wasn’t a Plan A or even B for the Bruins. With rumors swirling earlier that the Bs were interested in Johnny Oduya and Davey Jones (nothing came of those), it’s seems obvious that Chai had to settle for Rolston. Also, the Prov Bruins are kinda empty in terms of superb talent so Chiarelli didn’t have much to work with ammo wise.
More on all of Boston’s moves after the jump…
Rolston’s numbers in 49 games played:
And because the Bruins don’t have enough players with concussions, Chia brings in Mottau. He just came off NYI IR with a concussion. Mottau is a local boy from Quincy, Mass.
Mottau’s numbers in 29 games played this year:
Watch him dance with Sean Avery.
Chiarelli also got a second defenseman to add to the squad. He traded Kampfer for Greg Zanon of the Minnesotta Wild. Zanon had four hits and four blocked shots against Boston in the Wild’s win over the Bruins. Also, Zanon looks like a serial killer.
Zanon’s numbers in 39 games played this season:
Marchand and Zanon gonna clip all the NHL.
Bottom line: Bruins add some depth and bodies that are better than what’s coming up from Providence. And they gave up no one of importance and no draft picks. Chiarelli added some insurance to the team’s roster.
