Bruins’ Rask named Third Star of the Month for January

Earlier today, the NHL announced that Tuukka Rask has been named Third Star of the Month for the month of January.

This is a huge honor for Rask, especially after the tough season the Bruins have been facing. They have not been performing up to standards because of injuries, and honestly not being able to get in the right rhythm until it’s too late in the game.

But the one player that has not  been given enough credit is Rask. The goalie is the first person that fans like to blame when it comes to losing. But the goalie has the hardest job of any player on the team. They are the ones that the team depends on to stop the puck from going in the goal.

In the month of January, Rask has had one regulation loss with a 7-1-3 record, including a shutout performance against the New York Rangers where he stopped all 30 shots on goal. Rask also appeared in 11 games in January, allowing 18 goals, giving him a 1.64 goals against average. This gives him a total of 336 saves on 354 shots last month with a save percentage of .949.

Rask’s current record in the past 41 games is 22-11-7 with two shutouts with a 2.31 goals against average and .921 save percentage. Rask icurrently 12th in the standings on the save percentage leaderboard, which is a lot lower than people would think. However, he is still one of the best goalies in the league. He is accurate and plays his heart out, and as a Bruin’s fan, I wouldn’t want anyone else in goal.
