The Boston Bruins have locked up their top RFA, by re-signing young defenseman Torey Krug to a four-year deal worth $5.25 million annually. In addition, the Bruins have placed defenseman Dennis Seidenberg on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Krug registered 44 points in a breakout performance last year. While his goal totals were an unlucky four goals, his puck movement was crucial to the power play and offense of the Bruins. Krug signs a comparable market deal with other RFA defenseman like Sami Vatanen (4 yrs, $4.875M per) and Jared Spurgeon (4 yrs, $5.187M per).
Seidenberg came over to the Bruins in a trade from the Florida Panthers in 2010, along with former Bruin Matt Bartkowski, and helped the Bruins raise the Stanley Cup in 2011 with 32 points that year. Last year, Seidenberg had an injury plagued start to the season and only registered 12 points and a goal.
The moves are a salary cap shuffle to prepare the Bruins for the upcoming free agency period. Last year saw the Bruins lock down physical winger Matt Beleskey and make some shaky trades, like acquiring Zac Rinaldo from the Philadelphia Flyers.
