The Boston Bruins faced off against the Ottawa Senators last night for the third time in the past two weeks. They had split a home and home early this season and now were ready to face off in their third out of four match ups this season. Up in Ottawa, at the Canadian Tire Center, the two teams squared off in a physical and defensive game, which felt very unusual for a regular season game. The game went well and found itself in overtime tied 1-1 after good play from both sides during the first three periods.

During the 3 on 3, 5 minute overtime, the Bruins had a great opportunity early as Loui Eriksson almost went bar down on Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson, who made 33 saves on the night, however the puck bounced back and lead to a rush the other way. We have seen a lot of this back and fourth action in overtime this season, and I must say I like how it generates scoring chances, and lets the ice open up. With an Ottawa rush coming at Tuukka Rask in net for the Bruins, he made a valiant effort to stop a nice shot from Mark Stone, but it ended up begin not enough.

The Bruins ended up losing 2-1 in OT. They take the one point out of the loss in OT and are in place as the first wild card in the Eastern Conference. The Bruins now have 47 points through 40 games of tiring 82 game season. The Bruins are currently in the middle of a five game road trip, as they will take on the Rangers, Flyers, and Sabers this week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, finishing up the road trip along with a home game Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Bruins received their goal from David Pastrnak recently called up from the AHL, he was assisted by Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron. For the Senators Mika Zibanejad scored in the first period, along with Mark Stone’s OT winner. The Senators defense men Erik Karlsson also played great as he continues to have a great season for Ottawa, assisting Stone and Zibanejad on their goals, giving Karlsson 36 assists on the season, the second best in the NHL.
