Happy College football day Bucstoppers….today we Raid into the mind of Andrew Juge, who runs TheSaintsNation.com website. He asked me some Questions about the Bucs which you can read in his “Blogging with the Enemy” article HERE. You can follow Andrew and his Saint worshipers on his twitter, which if you read the fine print in the Bucstop agreement you are now contractually obligated to do so!!
Kidding of course, I forgot there may be Saints fans with lower IQs lurking on these waters!
Ok ANDREW, first Question….How long do you see Drew Brees being an elite QB in the NFL?
Well Nick, What does elite even mean? Top 5? Is he even there now? I think Brees is a great quarterback, still, capable of winning big games with the right pieces around him. If your defense is consistently giving up over 400 yards a game, I don’t think any QB can survive it. He lead the team to game winning drives against Atlanta and Cleveland inside 2 minutes only to have the defense give the game right back away. His current passer rating is 99.5, higher than his career average. He’s playing the same as always pretty much. I think it’s safe to say he can maintain this level for 2-3 more years if no catastrophic injury occurs.
Nick: As an outsider, how do you feel about the Lovie Hire, and what did you think of Greg Schiano? And for that matter Raheem Morris?
Andrew: I loved the Lovie hire. Like you said you may not see results on day one, but over time you will. Guys have to buy in, and he needs to draft the right fit. It takes time to get the right personnel, especially for that team. You also need a better quarterback to win games. I think Schiano is not innovative or adaptable enough to be an NFL head coach. Raheem Morris was better than Schiano, I liked his aggressiveness. But he may have been in a little over his head.
Nick: If you had a choice, which Bucs player would you choose on offense?
Andrew: Vincent Jackson I guess. There’s no one I view as a massive upgrade. I think Doug Martin is a bit better than Mark Ingram, so maybe I’d go that route, but I don’t see that as a major difference. If Doug Martin was a Saint, he wouldn’t be the kind of back he is in Tampa.
Nick: What about on Defense?
Andrew: McCoy please. One of the more underrated guys in the league. But I’ll take David too. Either guy is better than every single defensive player the Saints have, including Jairus Byrd (who was just announced as out for the season).
So there you have it… Conclusion? Have we finally heard the last of the now small minority that thinks Gerald McCoy is over rated? Outsiders look at him as the best player on defense, which he is. …and agreed, with David. I couldn’t agree more with Andrew’s views on our recent coaches, and perhaps he could be giving Drew Brees a year too much on his future, but I wouldn’t bet against Brees, he has been a dominant QB all his life, a sure first round Hall of Famer if there ever was one.
Please check out his interview with me and my responses to them, and leave a comment or two on his sight!
