Yes, we know I am a Buchholz fan. I’ve been one for a long time…..constantly believer in Clay’s stuff and his ability to give us quality starts. Heck, the last line in my twitter profile is NO TRADE CLAY. Seriously Theo….NO TRADE CLAY.
So far in 2010…Clay has been pretty gosh darn good. He’s leading the staff in ERA and last night became the first starting pitcher to get to 3 wins. Of course, that might say more about the lackluster start of his fellow starting pitchers, but still…Clay is doing for the Red Sox what they need right now. He’s giving them quality starts and the chance the win the ball game. Yep. Me = Clay Fan. No doubt.
So, to say I had a mini heart attack when I saw that ball from Kendry Morales smack off Clay’s ankle in the second inning is an understatement. I was comforted that he got up and was moving around. And each inning that Clay came back out and didn’t seem to be favoring his ankle at all…phew. Of course, Morales wasn’t done with project “Take Out Clay” when he sent another ball whizzing past him and this one looked like it just grazed Clay on it’s way by. Seriously Kendry….what did Clay ever do to you?
Kidding aside. Everything with Clay and the ankle looks like it is fine. An article that popped up early this morning on RedSox.com said that Clay is OK…and no worries about him. Clay also said in the article that any of his troubles in his outing, he didn’t think had anything to do with the ankle.
“Early on, I was down in the zone, then I started creeping up slowly, throughout the rest of the game, and gave up some hard-hit balls,” Buchholz said. “They were up in the zone, and that’s what happens when you throw pitches right there that catch the plate. The foot didn’t have anything to do with it — I was just trying to do too much in certain situations and not hitting my spots.”
Good to know the kid is alright….I look forward to seeing him on the mound on Saturday. When…you know…I’ll be at Fenway.
