After rehabbing with the PawSox since May, Clay Buchholz made his return to Boston last night. There was the hype that was there before the season started but once again he struggled and took another loss. Clay went 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs with 5 walks. This is a troubling senario for Boston because he did not really show any improvement and he was facing the O’s. Theo had purposely held him back from starting against the Yanks last week to ensure a confidence building start against the O’s but that plan has now backfired. The Sox bullpen woes showed up again in the 8th when Delcarmen gave up 2 more followed by Timlin being Timlin allowing a run in the 9th. The offense was not great last night even when aided by an error in the 9th. Pedroia’s hit streak ended and the good/bad news of the night was that Lugo hurt his leg and may be headed to the DL.
