As the Red Sox played last night, they had a chance once again to take 1st in the AL East. NY lost to the Jays and the Tigers beat the Rays. Buchholz took the mound and was wheeling and dealing through the 7th. All Buch gave up was a homerun to Asdrubal Cabrera in the 4th to tie the game 1-1 and Carl Crawford immediately gave Buch the lead back with a solo HR in the top of the 5th. He was throwing pitches for strikes and really commanding the zone. He was pitching against former Sox Justin Masterson. As advertised, they gave us a pitcher’s duel. Buch left the game in the 8th with the Sox clinging to a 2-1 lead. He allowed a single in the 8th and Tito pulled him in favor of Daniel Bard. Bard came in and gave up a single to Brantley to tie the game. Bard followed that up with a double to the ever so hot Asdrubal Cabrera to give the Tribe a 3-2 lead. Bard’s been the example of inconsistent this year and he also has probably been overworked. He pitched 22 pitches the night before and was sent back out there again. The Sox went down in the 9th and lost a game they were on their way to winning….once again denying themselves the chance to claim 1st spot in the AL East.
