Buchholz Good, Offense Not So Much

Clay Buchholz looked like the pitcher he has been hyped up to be over the last few years.  He had a career high ten strikeouts in six and two thirds innings.  Buchholz dominated the Rangers with great command and a good off-speed stuff until he ran into trouble in the seventh.   By the end of the inning he had given up three runs and the game had gotten away from him:

“Up until the seventh inning, I felt really good about it,” Buchholz said. “I felt like I missed two spots with the fastball, and they both got hit for doubles and both were in the seventh inning. They were down. I was telling myself all day that if I miss, just miss down. They put two good swings on them and drove a couple runs in. But other than that, I felt good. I felt like I’m moving in the right direction.”

Unfortunately the offense could not help out Buchholz as C.J. Wilson and the Rangers bullpen held the Sox scoreless.  Scutaro, Pedroia, and Lowell were all 0-4 on the night and V-Mart grounded into a league leading 7th double play on the season.
