Ever since Clay Buchholz burst onto the scene with a no-hitter in his first major league game, speculation and hype followed. Buchholz was the next can’t miss prospect; a front of the rotation guy for the future. His struggles last season alienated many fans and made others question if he could be a star in the bigs. His performance tonight showed that he has arrived. Much like Jon Lester did from the second half of ’07 on, Buchholz is now looking like he can have continued success in the majors. Tonight he pitched 8 1/3 innings, giving up just 3 hits while striking out 9.
The Red Sox offense put up 3 runs on 10 hits which proved to be enough run support for Buchholz. Papelbon finally had a smooth outing and was able to pick up his 32nd save of the year.
