Buckeye State Hockey Notebook: 10/1/15

Aaron Ekblad

Hello, and welcome to the first installment of Buckeye State Hockey Notebook! This will be an ongoing feature throughout the season that highlights Blue Jackets news on off days and will often times bring light to some news that you may have missed during the day.

Behind The Battle

“Behind The Battle” is always a great feature that the Blue Jackets use to show the fans what is happening when the players aren’t on the ice. This episode is no exception. Some highlights from the episode:

  • Production value is great. You get a real Hard Knocks or 24/7 vibe from the opening montage. It is very tough to replicate that when places like HBO or Epix have these large production budgets. Kudos.
  • Dubinsky’s sunglasses. I know the guy is into high fashion from his time in New York but is he trying out for a Starsky and Hutch remake? While we are on the topic of fashion, bold move by Bobrovsky with the no collar look. Quick reminder you can only find this type of commentary at BuckeyeStateHockey.com
  • Clarkson don’t look right into the camera! That is TV 101.
  • Quick reminder during the training camp segment that these guys are athletic specimens. There is a reason that I am writing about them and not participating. Yeesh.
  • Clockgate!?!
  • Todd Richards talking about breakout coverage with the team is something I could watch till the cows come home. Very fascinating. The X’s and O’s of the game give you a peek behind the curtain that you’ll only get from this video.

Oleg Yevenko Contract

For those paying attention during training camp and even before that at Traverse City, it should come as no surprise that Yevenko was signed to a one year two-way deal. While his large frame is impressive (the man is 6’7) it has been equally impressive to watch him skate and pass the puck. You expect the truculence but you don’t expect to see the accurate wrister he used multiple times in the preseason. While this may seem minor now, this is a promising sign for the CBJ and their scouting staff as they may have found a diamond in the rough this past offseason.

New Lake Erie Sweater

As the Blue Jackets and Monsters start their hopefully long and fruitful partnership, we get some big news courtesy of Mix 14 himself that a new jersey is on its way for the minor league affiliate. Anyone think their is an outside chance that Boomer makes a return (cross your fingers, people)?
