With a 7-3 lead over the Dolphins, and a 10-10 tie to Kansas City, the Bucs starters in what will probably be the last action of the preseason went into the half against the Jaguars with a 10-6 lead, and insured they were not down to any team’s starters this preseason. Its a nice sign, especially on a night with so many opposites from what we are used to seeing:
- Barrett Ruud only had 2 tackles? But makes the play of the game with a pick and 80 yard return?
- Brent Bowden punts for 25 and 20 yards? He has been solid all preseason so far.
- Derrick Ward slashes and dashes through the Jags defense?
If that were strange enough, we saw some things that rang very positive that were normal, and maybe a bit overdue.
- Gerald McCoy and Brian Price are already starting to show what they advertised; quick, disruptive bursts into the other teams backfield.
- Josh Johnson is far more accurate of a passer in 2010 than he was in 2009; preseason OR Regular season.
- Quincy Black is turning into a stud at linebacker, perhaps on his way to becoming a star on the defense.
- Mike Williams is something special.
How special we will have to wait a few weeks to find out, but the early indications are exciting for Bucs fans who really havnt had a wide receiver to wow us in franchise history. How far along Josh Freeman is on his recovery from a broken thumb only Josh and the Bucs know, but I think everyone can rest a tad bit easier IF for some reason Josh Johnson has to play vs the Browns.
