BUCS WIN!! Beat Saints starters 23-13; now wait for Packers and Giants to lose.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints 23 to 13 today, with the key winning touchdown coming on a miraculous play that showcased this years two biggest stars; Josh Freeman and Mike Williams. The Bucs are just trying to get a 4th and 1 converted, but their fake is snuffed out. Not to worry, a prayer pass to Williams nets a TD. Then you have yet another youngster off a practice squad making plays, Desmond Briscoe for example.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now gone into the Louisiana SuperDome and beaten the Favored Saints 3 of the last 4 years. Make no mistake about it, the Saints were playing their starters until well midway through the 4th quarter when the Bucs were up 20-13. After a crazy series of plays where Josh Freeman made probably the worst play of the year by shovel passing the ball to an unsuspecting LeGarrett Blount, who fumbled the Ball as the Saints recovered. By that point however, the Falcons were up 31-3 over Carolina and Saints HC Sean Peyton probably felt the risk to injury wasn’t worth it, replacing Drew Brees. Brees counterpart Josh Freeman on the other hand had another career day, going 21 of 26 for 255 yards and 2 more touchdowns. Freeman was spot on accurate all day, although for the first time in months was having issues with Jeremy Zuttah and Center problems with the time clock. Freeman had thrown the ball to 8 different receivers by the half, and finished the game throwing to 10 including Kregg Lumpkin and Erik Lorig. Another Buccaneer who did well on the year that is would be Blount, who finished the season with 1,007 yards but without having played more than a handful of plays before Game 6! Whether or not the Bucs make the playoffs will be determined by the NY Giants game against the Redskins, and the Packers contest against the Bears. Should the Bucs not make the cut, they can take solace in the fact they finished the season 10-6, tying the franchises 3rd best record EVER! It also gives the Bucs their first win of the year over a team with a winning record, which ends up with one loss against a losing team, and one win against a winning team. Thats quite a performance for a team that became the NFL’s first to post a winning record after having started 10 rookies. If that is enough for Head Coach Raheem Morris to get Coach of the year we dont know, but considering what he had to work with, he deserves it. Later tonight, the Seahawks will take on the Rams for the right to host a playoff game; either team took a beating by the Bucs this season, and should not be going to the playoffs while a good team like Tampa Bay could sit at home with 10 wins.
